Dear Friends, AFACT is a partnership of parishes working to make our community a better place to live. Our mission flows from a shared faith in God who calls us to serve our neighbors in love. The heart of our ministry is listening to individuals tell their stories and helping people connect with others to make changes in our community they could never make alone. We hope you share our vision for this community. Please support AFACT with your prayers and participation. Become a part of this exciting ministry by making a financial donation to help us expand our work throughout the city. God's Blessings, AFACT Board of Directors

AFACT News - Fall 2009
September Action Focuses on Denali KidCare. More than 300 people filled Central Lutheran Church to urge Commissioner Bill Hogan (AK Health and Human Services) to support expansion of Alaska's SCHIP, known as Denali KidCare, which provides healthcare for children of Alaska's low-income, working families who are otherwise uninsured. After hearing testimony of families describing the hardships they face, Commissioner Hogan assured those gathered that Governor Parnell supports moving eligibility to 200% (of the Federal poverty level) and will work with the legislature to go beyond that goal with some sort of cost-sharing consideration. AFACT's Fifth Annual Retreat was held in August at Holy Spirit Center in Anchorage with 30 leaders from 8 congregations participating. The 2 days provided time for attendees to reflect on the values of their faith and to share experiences of the past year. Four-day Statewide Leadership Training in October welcomed AFACT leaders from across the state. Learning the steps in the organizing process and engaging with the faith principles and philosopy underlying faith-based community organizing was central to the training.
