Download "How God Provides," the 2006 Gloria Dei Devotional. The mission of the Spiritual Life Committee is to promote spiritual life and growth of the church family at Gloria Dei. The committee has existed for many years, and redefined its mission in the Grounded and Growing Church Review. Anyone is welcome to join the Committtee who has an interest in growing our church family spiritually, and is willing to pray for God’s will for us. If you have questions please call Marilyn Anderson or Jeanne Worachek. e Some of the activities Spiritual Life has initiated are healing services, prayer vigils and book studies. The first Healing Service was held on February 26, 2003, after a church-wide study on the book, Stretch Out Your Hand: Exploring healing Prayer by Tilda Norberg and Robert D. Webber. One healing service is usually scheduled in the fall and one in the spring. Services have focused on topics such as prayer and forgiveness, and are usually more meditative in nature. They include communion, anointing with oil and prayer. There are many areas in our lives that can get wounded and need healing. Healing can be for troubled relationships, a mental issue like depression, a spiritual issue or a physical one. Everyone is welcome to attend. Look for the next one to be in the bulletin or call the church office at 243-2301. “Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits – who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion” Psalm 103 v.2-4 Prayer vigils are typically scheduled on Good Friday during Lent. They are a time when the sanctuary has been set aside for time spent in prayer, meditation on scripture and private worship. Sometimes they last through the night and sometimes they are scheduled during the day, depending on the church’s schedule. Announcements in the bulletin will let you know when the next one is scheduled. The sanctuary will be open for prayer the week prior to Stewardship Sunday, November 19, 2006. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Philippians 4 v.6 Classes are on-going throughout the year. We have studied books like The Case for Christ, Stretch Out Your Hand: Exploring Healing Prayer, Boundaries, and The Purpose Driven Life. These studies have been offered throughout the week led by various members. Different times were set up to accommodate people’s demanding schedules. Another study we have completed multiple times is the Crown Financial Study. This ten week class focuses on Biblical based life principles and is very rewarding. Different studies come up throughout the year, so look for more information in your bulletin or call the church office at 243-2301. If you have ideas for studies, please contact Marilyn Anderson or Jeanne Worachek. May God bless you and keep you.
